Found film (I mean, my own film) (Which was never lost but anyway)
I recently started developing film at home again, after a long time away from it. I wanted to get images as grainy looking as possible, and on the advice of the lab technician at John Gunn's in Dublin i developed a couple of rolls to her instructions ie use paper developer, 4/1 for 4 minutes, regardless of the film type or speed. Surprise surprise, I'd labelled some old films wrongly and so went ahead and accidentally double exposed them.
Labels:
black and white,
double exposure,
fairy fort,
film,
fm2,
Galway,
grainy,
old film,
self-developed

Nostalghia
I've not used an SLR in months now, and am missing the heft and reassurance (and occasional excruciating ding on the hip) from my FM2. These are from summer 2009, not sure if I've posted them already but I like them, and who's counting anyway.
I "scanned" the negatives by taping them down on a sheet of white paper over a lamp, then photographing them with a digital camera. Hence the tape and general inconsistency.
I mostly gave up photographing strangers a few years ago, it became sort of morally unjustifiable; I figured people were being photographed against their will enough. But I think my mind might be changing on that score, maybe I'll go back to it. I got around the problem (and my shyness) by mostly photographing people from behind, or with their faces obscured somehow.
I think I'd like to go back to doing that now.

Suburban night
Standing out in the middle of a freezing cold field, in the dark, surrounded by fog, with a camera, tripod, cable release and some seriously beautiful film, making exposures that last minutes and in the meantime just looking and listening, trying and failing to keep warm.
I heartily recommend it.
